60 Seconds With… Katherine of ‘Disclosure’

Briefly introduce yourself/your company…
I am a Jewish interdisciplinary artist and a graduate of Studio 58!

In addition to being directed by Jane Heyman, I am thrilled to be working with a talented group of emerging and established artists (most of whom are Studio 58 graduates) including : Agnes Tong, Erik Gow, Caroline Frost, Keagan “Kiki” Elrick, Ivy Charles, Tristen Foy, Raquel Neumann, and Natasha Zacher.

What is it that makes your work/company unique
Disclosure was originally created and preformed for my graduation solo show from Studio 58. I am very excited to have the opportunity to expand this piece and share it with a wider audience at the Fringe. I am also thrilled to have partnered with WAVAW who will be facilitating a ten minute talk-back at the end of each show!

I also have the honour of working with a team of extremely talented and kind hearted people. Everyone in the room is either an emerging or professional theatre artist. As a result, there has been is a huge sense of collaboration within the creation of Disclosure!

What kind of experience do you hope audiences will have during your show?
I hope the audience will go on the journey with me and feel immersed within the use of movement, spoken word, soundscape, and humor of Disclosure.

Without spoilers, tell us what you think audiences will remember most about your show?
I have witnessed multiple shows that focus on a traumatic event, but very few that explore the process of healing. There is no one way to heal, nor is the process of healing linear. Rather than centering this show around the incident itself, I chose to dive into what happens next.

I think the audience will remember the use of repetition, multi mediums within the show, and the journey towards healing.

What do you think is the best thing about the Fringe?
The Fringe is one of my favourite times of the year! I love having the opportunity to go and see multiple new shows and touring shows. There is also a wonderful sense of community and connection at the Fringe. I am so thankful we are able to have this festival in person this year!

What is the most important thing you hope audiences will take away from your show?

You can never fully know what someone has been through. I hope that the audience takes away a sense of empathy and compassion for those who have experienced any form of trauma. Also, I hope this show brings awareness to challenges within our medical system.
