Rishita (she/her), has joined our team as the Volunteer Coordinator for the 2024 Fringe Festival, and we are so happy to have her!
Rishita is Bangladeshi and immigrated to Canada with her family where she grew up on the unceded territories of the Musqueam, Squamish, and Tsleil-Waututh nations. She currently studies Sociology and Health and Society at the University of British Columbia. Rishita is part of a music club called Blank Vinyl Project, and the experience has taught her how much she loves being involved with festivals and being around creative minds!
It is her first Fringe Festival EVER! Woohoo! Although she feels a healthy combination of excitement and nerves, she explains how warmly the Fringe staff have welcomed her onto the team. Rishita admires Fringe’s dedication to creating space in the art community for people coming from all walks of life.
On joining the festival team, Rishita said:
“As Volunteer Coordinator this year, I have had the pleasure of working with our lovely Volunteer Manager Larissa Lau! We will be busy this summer recruiting, training, and taking care of our 350+ passionate volunteers. Reading this year’s program guide made me so inspired and stoked, I am very excited to be a part of the festival and the Fringe community.”
Larissa Lau, Volunteer Manager shared:
“I am so ecstatic to have Rishita join the Vancouver Fringe as our Volunteer Coordinator; we are truly so lucky to have her! Rishita is committed to creating a strong sense of community amongst our volunteers and has displayed an immense amount of initiative. She has been a pleasure to work with thus far, and I can’t wait to deep dive into our Fringe festival planning! Rishita’s patience and passion for community is the perfect addition to our volunteer team, I’m sure our volunteers will welcome her with open arms.”
In her free time, Rishita loves to go to live music shows, crochet, paint, play guitar and bass, and walk by the water.
