60 Seconds With… The Musical and Imaginative Team From ‘Camp Goneaway’

Pack your bags! We’re going to ‘Camp Goneaway’ this September.

Briefly introduce yourself/your company…

I’m Ashley! The co-artistic director of Ragamuffin Productions. Our company was formed by Sargil Tongol, Christian Krushel, and myself back in 2017. Our most recent production was June Bug (Vancouver Fringe, UpintheAir’s rEvolver Festival, Theatre on the Edge, Victoria Fringe). We love theatre, ice cream and dance parties.

What is it that makes your work/company unique?

Our work explores themes of speculative futures and science fiction, often from the perspective of youth. Sargil and myself have a strong background in arts education. We invite audiences to imagine possible worlds and strive to stay grounded in the outlandish.

What kind of experience do you hope audiences will have during your show?

It’s hard to predict how audiences will react. I hope audiences leave feeling inspired to care more for the environment and each other.

Without spoilers, tell us what you think audiences will remember most about your show…
The Monster Song! All of our music/lyrics were written by Argel MDR. He did an excellent job leaning into a summer campfire vibe. I also think audiences will remember the relationship between Margot and Evie. It’s not often we get to see two preteen characters being silly and messy onstage.

How do you feel about participating in the 40th anniversary of the Vancouver Fringe!?

Excited, grateful and nervous! We’re lucky to be invited back as the 2022 recipients of the TYP Family Forward Award. This generously gave us the resources to develop another show. We are taking audiences to summer camp! Yay!

Tickets for ‘Camp Goneaway’ are on sale now, taking place at The NEST from 5 – 15 Sep. Book your spot today for just $15 per person
