60 Seconds With…Sunny Mohajer, Writer and Director of ‘Portraits of Solitude’

Curious about ‘Portraits of Solitude’? Read below for a taste of what to expect!

Briefly introduce yourself/your company…

Hi I’m Sunny Mohajer, the writer and director of Portraits of Solitude, produced through my company Luna Creatives. I’m very excited to have this opportunity at the Vancouver Fringe Festival 2024!

What is it that makes your work/company unique?

I have a film background, having written, directed and produced films. This is my theatre debut and I’m very excited to work with an incredible cast and crew to bring this play to life at the Fringe Fest. .

What kind of experience do you hope audiences will have during your show?

I love leaning into absurdity and experimenting with form and style. This was the perfect opportunity for me to do so in terms of writing, directing, and also designing the show as well. It’s a drama comedy! We want the audiences to laugh along with us at the witty, chaotic and sometimes dark humour, but also at the core of it all, it comes from a very genuine and raw place. All of us involved are being quite vulnerable and exposing our deepest fears and desires as artists. We believe there is something in this for everyone to relate to. We hope everyone watching will see a piece of themselves in this, laugh at the absurdity of it all, and come out feeling refreshed and hopeful, recommitting to their dreams and journeys of self-love.

Without spoilers, tell us what you think audiences will remember most about your show…

Hopefully a ridiculous joke or two from the show 😉 And most importantly, its message of self-love and validating yourself as an artist, keeping your passion and drive alive.

How do you feel about participating in the 40th anniversary of the Vancouver Fringe!?

I love the Fringe Fest! It’s so amazing that it provides so many different artists with opportunities to present their work however they like! I appreciate the creative and supportive nature of it. We’re very grateful to be a part of the 40th anniversary of Fringe in Vancouver.
