Jem Rolls on his 152nd Fringe Festival, and what to expect from ‘THE KID WAS A SPY’
Briefly introduce yourself/your company…
Very english. This is my 20th fringe tour and Vancouver will be my 152nd Fringe Festival. Am currently about to begin the Edmonton Fringe, my sixth fringe of the summer. I have met more fringers over the past twenty years than anyone else, by a distance.
What is it that makes your work/company unique?
Physicalized storytelling. A poetic rhythm to a historical tale. Big history no-one knows.
What kind of experience do you hope audiences will have during your show?
The kind of ride you get from a thriller: [Can Ted Hall get away with it]. A sense of youthful idealism. A very tricky moral choice.
Without spoilers, tell us what you think audiences will remember most about your show…
A nineteen year old kid made a very big decision. A moral choice.
How do you feel about participating in the 40th anniversary of the Vancouver Fringe!?
Gleeful. Its my 152nd Fringe Festival. It’s always the end of the summer. The show is always VERY together by the time it reaches Vancouver so it is great to do. Once more into the breach …
